Welcome to Gender and Sexuality Research Group!
This site contains information about the research group's activities, research, publications and key events.
The members of this group are located within the Manchester Metropolitan University. The thematic grouping is open to anyone with active research interests concerning questions of gender and/or sexuality. The group takes an interdisciplinary stance. The gender and sexuality network is committed to encouraging and supporting research projects which focus on gender and/or sexuality and associated themes and categories.
Such work may include, for instance, research which is concerned with the impact of gender on social positioning, and the intersection of gender and sexuality with other social divisions (and aspects of subjectivity) such as race/ethnicity, social class, caste, generation, and dis/ability. The group attempts to provide a network for researchers concerned with the role of gender and sexuality in the creation of differential social positionings and who analyse gender as a relational category.
The group fosters a broad research agenda into gender- and sexuality-related topics. Such research may include (but is not limited to):
- gender and sexual identities;
- relationships, intimacy and sexuality;
- family, work and household relations;
- questions regarding health, education, work, property, the economy, the state and law, media; social movement politics and gender and sexuality;
- globalisation and the effects on gender relations and human rights;
- research in the fields of Womens Studies and studies of masculinity/ties;
- exploration of discursive and linguistic constructions of genders and sexualities.
